NO. It doesn't have a mechanical advance. The Bosch EZK electronic
ignition system takes care of all timing advancement requirements.

The only thing of consequence in the distributor body is the hall-effect
sensor and rotor, which (indirectly) tells EZK the position of the
crankshaft.

In 1989, SAAB moved the crank position pickup sensor and rotor to the crank
pulley, so the '89-'90 2-liter non-turbo (900 and 9000) distributor is just
an empty shell that provides a spinning rotor shaft and a place to attach
the cap.

You might have better luck resolving the problem by checking the wiring at
the distributor, and at the knock sensor.

Your ignition system is identical to that of an '88 900 16V non-turbo.
Therefore you should use the Bentley 900 16V repair manual for good
troubleshooting info. For that matter, the engine itself and the FI system
are also pretty much identical.
