Maybe you already know this, but it's worth a chance. There is an alignment
process for the shift rod. Basically you loosen the clamp on the shift rod
in the engine bay and then go thru the alignment process. Don't have my
Benteley manual with me, so I can't give you detailed instructions. I can
say it differs by year. I aligned an '83. The manual tells you which gear to
be in when doing the alignment. Then strip the carpet back from the front of
the console. There is a hole in the hollow rod connected to the shift lever.
There is a hole in the shift lever. Put a drift in the hole and tighten the
clamp in the engine bay.
