limited slip differential for 9000/Alfa 164/Fiat/Lancia [saabnow]

Subject: limited slip differential for 9000/Alfa 164/Fiat/Lancia
=================
Hi,
I am the owner of a 1991 Alfa Romeo 164. As many of you know, this car is one of four sister
models resulting from the Tipo 4 collaboration between Fiat Auto, Alfa Romeo SpA and Saab,
which produced Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema, AR 164 and the original Saab 9000.

As powerful FWD cars, these cars will all benefit from a torque-biasing limited slip front
differential to increase traction in adverse conditions (snow, ice, rain) and amend torque
steer. As opposed to conventional limited slip differentials, helical gear based torque biasing
differentials are compatible with FWD and are becoming increasingly common as standard equipment
in FWD cars.

They were not common when our cars were produced so I am trying to get together an order for
20-30 units to be produced by Quaife (quaife.co.uk). I know that the differential will also
fit Fiat Croma and Lancia Thema. Saab shares many parts with the other Tipo 4 cars, e.g. front
control arms. If the differential also fits Saab 9000, we could all benefit from 'strength
in numbers'.

I would like to know whether Saab used the same transaxle/differential as Fiat/Alfa for the
9000. I know that very few people probably compared transmissions between the various Tipo
4 cars. A way to get around this is to check for the most likely alternative, which is that
the 9000 uses the same transmission/differential as the 900. If it does, then it is unlikely
that the Alfa (Tipo 4) differential fits.

Can anybody help me with my question?
Sonny, Baltimore
