Subject: Get a rough estimate on some repairs on my 92 Saab 9000
=================
Folks,

I have a used 92 Saab 9000 that now needs some major repair. WhenÊI took it
to my nearest Saab dealer, the response was not encouraging. That's when I
heard about the Saab network and thought should check with you folks.
Basically I want to make a call between continuing maintaining my Saab or
giving up and getting a new car. Here's a list of repairs that I need on my
car (along with the estimate from the dealer).

1. Transmission cooler/lines/seals are leaking - $850.00
2. Engine Oil Pan is cracked in 2 spots - $850.00
3. Driver Side Front CV boot is torn open - $290.00
4. Both upper engine motor mounts are cracked and split - $380.00
5. Both front control arm bushings and end caps are broken - $580.00
6. Exhaust heat shield is rotted out - $290.00
7. Both tie rod ends are worn out - $440.00
8. Radiator is leaking - $770.00
9. Turbo Cooler Line seals in back of the water pump are leaking - $370.00
10.Transmission motor mount has collapsed - $350.00

What I am trying to confirm are
a) Are the estimate from the dealer reasonable or I might save a lot by going
to reputed Saab mechanic in my neighbourhood?
b) Which onesÊfrom the list above are absolutely 'must' fixed?
c) Based on other experiences, would you think fixing the above problems will
make my car problem free for 2-3 years
d) Finally would it advisable to even do any repair or should pursue looking
for a new car?

Appreciate your help in advance.

Regards,

- Raj
