Subject: RE: Get a rough estimate on some repairs on my 92 Saab 9000
=================
1. Transmission cooler/lines/seals are leaking - $850.00
- Depends on what is being replaced - if it's just a leaky line its way
too much.

2. Engine Oil Pan is cracked in 2 spots - $850.00
- Ouch - no way, especially if they are just going to weld it back

3. Driver Side Front CV boot is torn open - $290.00
- Very high - suggest you replace the boot yourself

4. Both upper engine motor mounts are cracked and split - $380.00
Seems a little high, but bearable. I had all engine and trans mounts
replaced on a Mercedes-Benz by a reputed not-very-local mechanic for 250
- canadian!

5. Both front control arm bushings and end caps are broken - $580.00
Way too high
6. Exhaust heat shield is rotted out - $290.00
Extremely high - suggest you get under there and put in a piece of steel

7. Both tie rod ends are worn out - $440.00
High

8. Radiator is leaking - $770.00
High
9. Turbo Cooler Line seals in back of the water pump are leaking -
$370.00
Again, very high
10.Transmission motor mount has collapsed - $350.00

Yeah maybe

What I am trying to confirm are
a) Are the estimate from the dealer reasonable or I might save a lot by
going to reputed Saab mechanic in my neighbourhood?

May save a lot and get a better repair

b) Which onesæfrom the list above are absolutely 'must' fixed?
All.

c) Based on other experiences, would you think fixing the above problems
will make my car problem free for 2-3 years
Impossible to say.

d) Finally would it advisable to even do any repair or should pursue
looking for a new car?

Repair all of the problems and enjoy your Saab.
