Hi Damon,

I have a Saab 9000, model 87, and I had the same problem. I also thought
that it was the AIC, but I was wrong.
There is the so called 'air quantity meter' at the air intake side of the
engine. It is composed of a small platinum wire placed in the path of the
air flow. It is heated with electricity, when the engine is on, it measures
the air intake quantity by the percentage of cooling down.
If it is wrong, or starts getting wrong, although the engine is at 2.500
rpm, the air intake is regulated as the engine would be on idle (so about
800-820 rpm) and the car shows the same problems that you described.
Ask your mecanic to have a look on this part (and hope that is works,
because it is one of the most expensive part, if it is to be replaced, at
least in Hungary.)

I hope this short notice can help.

Bye,

Janos
