Remove the driver's side speaker grill to check for leakage between the heater valve and heater core.
If any seepage is noted, you'll need to R&R the valve again, this time thoroughly clean the mating surfaces with something like scotchbrite before reassembling. I've made a heater valve FAQ on TSN which details the mating surface:

If all is dry and clean, go for a spirited autumn drive with the heat full on, the fan full on and the windows full open. Good luck!

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Hi,
My -91 Saab 9000 Automatic is having some hopefully minor problems.
The symptoms are that when I climb a hill, or otherwise step on the gas the CHECK ENGINE light may come on, and sometimes the motor is really not revving properly. The gas mileage seems to have gone worse as well.
My local mechanic, who is more a generalist than a Saab specialist, suspected that it is either the air-mass meter or the oxygen sensor, or both that are acting up. He otherwise tuned the ignition couple of thousand kilometers ago, adn the car has been running otherwise well since.
Does this sound right, and is the air-mass meter expensive? I believe the oxygen sensor is only about $50.
Another annoying nit is that the air-conditioning seems to leak a bit. There is some visible leakage from the joint of an aluminium pipe and rubber tube near the compressor. According to Saab the pipes should be replaced, and the price for parts only was something ridiculous like $400. Not knowing better, I would think it would be possible to just replace the rubber tube with pressure bearing hose attached to the aluminium pipe with a clamp for only a couple of dollars. Or perhaps just plug the leak with superglue or some such. Naturally it would also need to be recharged with gas/liquid. Am I being way too naive?
Btw. I wonder how many readers on this list are from Europe? I'm physically in South of France, and I'm thinking about selling my Saab. Any suggestions where I should advertise, as the www.saabnet.com's classifieds seem to be USA and Canada only?
Thanks,
Harri
