Could this be just the battery?

Update on the Sonett. Took off the air filter thingie, cleaned out the top of the carb, took off the distributor cap and cleaned the contacts, put things together and the car started running smoothly again. On the way to the parts store, I had another two minute bout of rough running, but then it went away for the rest of the night.
I touched one of my spark plug wires while my Sonett was running and got a decent shock. That shouldn't happen, right? Is that a good sign that my old spark plug wires need replacing. I went to Kragen and they had a listing for 1973 Sonett wires, but none in stock. Where can I get these?
Also, the car runs rough and can't hold an idle from time to time. Could the float in my carb (single barrel Weber) be getting stuck? I'm I way off in thinking in this direction? There don't seem to be any vacuum leaks, however I am replacing all these hoses since they are pretty old.
My odometer and trip odometer are not working. My speedometer is working fine. These are both driven by the same cable, right? So, that means I need to go into the odometer itself to find out what's broken, correct?
Thanks,
-Scott
