Hi Clive,

Does the noise change as you go round left or right hand turns (at speed).
That is, if you go round a left bend you put a higher load on the front right
wheel. If the noise deepens you need a new bearing. On my two 900s I had to
change bearings at approx. 90-100k miles.

(I would be surprised if a bearing squeaked - unless it is about to expire
and thus completely dry. I would expect it to make more of a 'groanning'
sound). Sometimes bearings need to be tightened. Garages do not always do
the correct job on them as (on the older models at least) bearings had to be
tightened to 240-250(?) feet/pounds which is beyond the range of most
1/2 inch torque wrenches.

Having said al that, if a bearing has gone loose and makes noise, I think
it may need replacing anyway.

If you suspect your brakes check for even heat on both left and right sides
(if one side is hotter than the other then ... ) Do they get hot after 2
miles? Can you touch the wheels or are they too hot to the touch after two
miles? If yes, you have seized brake callipers. Sorry, no advice from me as
to what you can do as the 88 model has different brakes to the cars I've
owned.

Let us know what you find.
Charles
