87 900T
Posted by Robert Cole (more from Robert Cole) on Thu, 24 Jun 1999 16:13:28
We have had a 87 900T for about nine years when we bought it three years old in 1990 in mint condition with 15K miles on it for half the price of a new one. It how has 150K miles and has been one of the great cars. It amazes me how much fun it is to drive and how really few problems we've had(turbo, transmission, clutch are all original...knock on wood.) I have two questions.
Part one: The muffler is going out again and I am looking for suggestions for a new muffler that maintains that really cool throaty sound of Saab 900 T's. The last one, a Walker I believe, was okay, but took a year or so to get the sound I wanted. Also, could I save a buck and crawl under the car and install it myself. In the past, I had it done by my mechanic.
Part two: I recently jumped into the deep end of the pool so to speak and put 4 quarts of $7.50 a quart Redline synthetic motor oil in the engine and have noticed a real improvement in idle, acceleration and mileage(about ten percent.) It's shocking to me how much smoother the car is now, even though it is about 25K since the last tune up. It runs like a new car. My question is: Redline suggests that the drain interval can go to 12000 miles or more with a filter change at 6000 miles. Are there any engineer wizards or mechanics out there who can comment on this? It kind of defies logic from my experience. Thanks.
PS. I do not represent nor work for Redline in any way.
