Wanted: Chain Holder for 'In-Car' Timing Chain Replacement
Posted by Mark Mueller (more from Mark Mueller) on Tue, 30 Nov 1999 21:23:22
Please help! I need to borrow, rent, or buy a chain holder for in-car
replacement of my 16V timing chain. This is SAAB special tool
83-94-652.

If anyone has purchased this tool, perhaps you could forward me the
source and cost. Since I rather enjoy the 1988 9000S I now have, I may
have another (hopefully newer) 9000 someday, and I'll likely drive it
enough miles to need the tool more than once.

As an alternative I have considered using a bagfull of plastic zip ties,
cutting them off one-by-one as I roll the chain in. Any collective
wisdom on this approach?

Thanks in advance for the help!

P.S. Thanks, Scott for the great help on the website/discussion group.
This discussion group is the best of its type that I know of. Only the
Audi group - and maybe those other Swedish types -- seem close in terms
of the quality, breadth, and helpfulness. Thanks to all who
particapate!
