Jack,
I have had great luck with a 48-series battery from AutoZone. The only
fitment problem with this unit is that it has mounting bumps on the short
sides as well as the long sides. This makes the base of the battery about
1/8' too long to sit in the tray properly. I went ahead and trimmed those
short-side bumps off, and it fits perfectly. BTW this 48-series has 700 CCA
and 875 CCno39sdcx6spamx78232F of capacity.
I recently acquired a '90 9kS with an Interstate battery, and IIRC it has
the same capacity specs as the abovementioned AutoZone unit. So it might
just be a 48-series as well. This one only has mounting bumps on the long
sides of the base, so I believe it fits perfectly without modifications.
