Hi there,
This might not be it, but my sister had this problem once before, and in the
end it wasn't the shicks or anything, it was her fuel tank. It had come
loose, and was hitting the floor of the car when she went over bumps. Long
shot, but I've none worse.
As for the check engine light, I have not go a clue.
