I can't believe you are comparing the peppiness of a 9-3SS to a 9-5 Aero. As TG said, the Aero truly eats the underpowered 9-3SS for lunch. In point of fact, my old 1999 9-3SE HOT was a lot closer to the power level of my 2002 Aero than the 9-3SS I test drove. Some of that feeling may have to do with the more linear power band of the SS, but I guarantee you that the Aero has a LOT more punch.
One of the interesting things I've noticed about my Aero is that it really is deceptively fast. I noticed this when out test driving my Mom's BMW 325xi. I would take corners in the BMW at a certain speed, and the car felt absolutely amazing in terms of handling. What I later realized is that I normally would be going into those corners 10-15 MPH faster when I was driving my Aero, due to its great composure and feeling of control at high speed.
