Brewman, dealers are doing fine. Most people negotiate poor deals and the dealer makes plenty of profit. A good portion of people come into the showroom get dazzled by a test drive and that new car smell and make a bad deal. Also, this alternative merchandising assistance for $500 alot of people don't know about that, they only see the bonus cash $500 ads and the dealer makes $500. He also gets his 3% hold back, the prep fee $130, and only a few people are going to negotiate anything less than 4% over invoice. Ofcourse what is the listed invoice is a point of discusion in itself. All these websites have invoice prices that are released by the manufactures which really aren't the true invoice, theres alittle inflation in that number besides that holdback. Dealers also make profit on trade ins because they greatly undervalue them and few people won;t the hassle of selling a car themselves. By the way servicing cars is a big money maker itself. After that 3yr/36000 free service is gone you have to take that Saab in still beacuse not many places want to touch Saabs or should. Overall theres plenty of ways and profit for dealers on every sale.
