I mount my portable GPS using the dash mount on a Nav Mat stand. The suction cup of the GPS mounts on the Nav Mat. I do not have it permenantly attached. If the suction cup comes loose, the GPS doesn't tip over because of the ridge on the Nav Mat. Then I just take the Nav Mat, with the GPS still attached and move it under the seat when I leave the car. Then there is no sign of the GPS. This works for me. Also, the GPS is above the dash so I have a better view without looking down. If the Nav Mat moves around, you can buy one of those sticky things on the dash that you hold glasses on. Put the Nav Mat on that and it stays in place.
