Time to switch from 5W30?

My 2005 9/3 Aero has about 115,000 happy miles on it. It's always gotten Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5W30, changed every 7,500 miles. I'm having to top it up between changes, typically 1 and a half quarts each 7,500.
Although this seems to me like a lot compared to cars I've owned in the past, I'm encouraged that it's been at about the same level of oil consumption since it was new. I've been told that this is "normal" for this engine.
Do SAABers start using thicker oil as the engines get older (and presumably a little looser), so as not to burn quite so much? Or does it make sense to continue to use 5W30, even though it's losing 1 1/2 quarts between changes?
Thanks for any thoughts.
