The LL-025-A oil spec was indeed for gasoline engines. The new GM identifier for gasoline engine oil is Dexos 1.
The LL-025-B oil spec was for diesel engines (although also usable in gasoline engines). The new GM identifier for diesel engine oil is Dexos 2.
Seems strange that a gasoline engine that formerly specified the oil standard intended for gasoline engines would now specify a diesel rated engine oil, unless it is an acknowledgement that the new Dexos 1 standard is not as robust as the old LL-025-A standard.
