The GM long life GM-ll-205A oils also carry the european A3/B3 ratings.
These oils meet a higher standard for viscocity breakdown after long exposure to harsh testing conditions.
The other major oil company synthetics are ususlly good products but do not meet the extended use requirements, either because they haven't been tested for it or don't have the right package of base oil + additives to meet it.
The oil life monitor in the Saab is calibrated for use with the long life spec oils. It would likely not harm the engine to use the lesser spec oils, but they should not be run using the oil life monitor to change them. Do it more often than the 1 year 10,000 mile max the oil life monitor is calibrated for.
FYI:
The 2010 9-3 owners manual says to use the GM-ll-025A or Dexos2 rated oils. To my knowledge that leaves mobil 1 0-40 as the only widely avaialable oil in the US if you want use the oil life monitor.
