Our 9-3 SC suddenly died. The manual transmission has failed. Car is 2006, has 103,000 miles, 2.0T with 5 speed manual.
Wife reports she backed out of the drive way, shifted to first, then tried to shift to 2nd, and it did not work. She coasted to the side of the road and parked, walked back to the house to fetch me.
I took a look at the car. First of all the engine starts and runs fine. The shifting seems soft or flimsy, when shifting into any gear, the shift lever pops out. The gears do not seem to engage inside the tranny. I looked in the engine compartment where the actuator cables attach to the tranny lever arm, the shifting linkage seems to work properly when my wife was shifting through the gears.
With the shift lever in any gear position (held with my hand), and releasing the clutch, there is no power going to the wheels. It seems to be permanently in neutral.
Up till an hour ago, everything with the car seemed fine.
Any idea what happened? Is the tranny shot? Clutch failure?
I am currently waiting for the tow truck to take it to the dealer.
