Ron - I have 9-5 wagon, 2 kids (in car seats), no dog though! (but two stupid cats that s#%t on my lawn)
It will be next to impossible to put 3 car seats in the back - depends upon seat design but I don't think it will work. If you have 3 kids I think a wagon is not a good choice - the Volvo is slightly wider than the Saab 9-5 so you maybe able to squeeze 3 seats in but it will be tight. Also, I believe there are only 2 tether strap fixtures (i think) in the cargo area)
The cargo area is not bad if you're hauling stuff for 2 kids. We packed a lot when we went to the Cape a few weeks back. Note that you DO need to pack efficiently as the cargo area isn't that big - you can also get a Thule box if you need more room.
If I had 3 kids I think I would get a small SUV with a 3rd seat or the god awful minivan....minivans do make sense for large families.....
good luck
By the way, we love our 95 wagon - laser red with 5K miles!
