So,
I'm going to be putting in my Basslink this weekend and I've done more thinking about the AS3 stereo setup. Since the speakers were manufactured for this setup it's easier to adjust the OHM's on the speakers instead of tweaking the individual channels coming out of the amplified in order to "position" the soundstage.
I am just starting to understand this and it makes perfect sense.
Am I figuring this correctly?...Many of us have installed Infinity of Boston Acoustics speakers in the front dash. I have the Boston Acoustics S35's. These have different ohm ratings than the HK speakers. Therefore we are reporting "better" clearer and brighter sound because these speakers are now overpowering the center speaker on the dash as well as the front doors. Have we "messed up" the soundstage as it was tuned by Harmon Kardon for the audio system?
I know what those HK cones look like, paper on paper with more paper. I would think a system of this caliber (and H/K branding) needs more exotic cones to bring out clarity and punch. I want to upgrade the rear doors (Yes, I know they merely "fill" the front stage) with some S45's and I was thinking of doing the front doors while I'm at it with a set of Boston acoustic midrange speakers. The question I have is will this really make it sound better? The factory speaker OHM rating served to "regulate" presence in lieu of independent channel control at the amplifier, therefore when swapped out for a regular speaker with a different OHM rating the audio imaging can change and you can end up with an imbalanced cabin.
Thoughts appreciated!

The workshop manual has this to say about the speakers:
AS2: Pioneer.
Front left/right 3.5 inch, 4.1 ohm
Front center 3.5 inch, 4.8 ohm
Front doors 6.5 inch, 1.8 ohm
Rear doors 4.0 inch, 3.6 ohm
AS3: Harman Kardon
Front left/right 2.5 inch, 2.5 ohm (+/- 0.4)
Front center 2.5 inch, 5,9 ohm (+/- 0.5)
Front doors 6.5 inch, 2.4 ohm (+/- 0.3)
Rear doors 2.5 inch, 2.5 ohm (+/- 0.4)
Rear shelf 6 x 9 inch, 2.0 ohm (+/- 0.3)
The odd speaker impedances indicates that the speakers are specially
designed to get the most out of the amplifier. Weird numbers indeed...
Unfortunately there is no specifications for frequency response for
the speakers or the different amplifier outputs.
I have the workshop manual for the audio system until monday, so
requests for more info as soon as possible. :-)
