The BMW system is superior, it seems to allow a little slip to develop, then intervenes more gently, throttling back to where you were just before slip started, and letting the throttle slowly resume opening. The saab system seems a lot more binary, detecting slip and chopping the power down to nothing, resulting in the situation you observed. Hopefully the ESP/TCS in 2002s is better.
A nice AWD system would make all this moot, but do you want 200 extra lbs and all that friction giving you AudiA6 fuel consumption.
