Hello there!!
I just purchased my first Saab a few days ago, I got a 2000 Saab 9-5 SE with the 3.0L V6 Turbo engine. The car has 136K miles on it and drives excellent however I am a little worried about it....
When I start the car in the morning and drive off the car blows a grey/white smoke for the first 3-5minutes of driving. Not huge clouds or anything but enough to see it in the rear view mirror. I took some time this morning to observe/smell it and it smells like it is oil burning. I have read that turbo saabs are known to blow a puff of smoke when first started when cold but only for 30-40sec. My car will usually blow smoke for the first mile or so of my drive out. After that point the car does not smoke anymore even if I start/stop it to go into school or whatever.
Unforuntately I did NOT do the kind of research I should of and ended up buying the V6 engine. I've heard alot of horrible things about the engine and I am worried that smoke means something is about to happen to my car. Also, the timing belt has NOT been changed and I know that needs to be done as well. The saab dealer wants over $600 to change the belt and a tension thing. None of the local mechanics around here will touch the car other than the dealer, so I'm hoping you guys have some sort of advice for me. Maybe someone knows a mechanic in the Auburn, Maine area, Portland is fine too I do not mind driving the distance to get help!! My point is, I know the belt HAS to be changed like ASAP but I do not want to waste anymore of my money changing a belt on the car if that smoke thing is something other problem.
Its a tuff situation because I really like the way the car looks and love driving it....
Any help is totally appricated!
