Saab received good frontal offset crash test results from IIHS on their 1999 9-5, with the exception of the "right footwell", where apparently there was some intrusion and the "dummy" injured his right leg. This was the only "injury measure" result that wasn't scored "Good", it received "poor".
The comment reads, "Intrusion into the driver footwell area contributed to high injury measures on the dummy's lower right leg, indicating the likelihood of injury."
It prevented the vehicle from scoring more than "Acceptable" overall, (but everything else was highest rating possible). This kept it from being a "best pick", like MB C-Class, Volvo S80, and BMW 3 series.
Question for dealers or others knowledgable here -- how has the 2002 9-5 redesign addressed this particular performance gap?
