Snow chains/cables? Posted by Ken [Email] (#2113) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ken) on Sun, 30 Dec 2001 15:25:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi. My local Saab dealer first told me not to use my car in snow. I know, it's from Sweden, but it's "not a good idea". I was stunned, since I donated my old 4x4 (which I used to take skiing) and had planned on simply buying some chains for my Aero.
My dealer told me to buy a set of 16 wheels and snow tires - and that was my only option. A month later they told me that the snow tires option is the only approved Saab solution for driving in snow - period. I have a problem believing that, and the service manager informed me that he uses cables (not chains) on his own Saab without difficulty. He also told me that they used to sell cables but when a Saab rep visited their dealership they suddenly stopped selling cables.
So...what's up with this? I know I have different tires since it's an Aero. However, for very casual use (perhaps 2 weekend trips per year to the mountains) wouldn't cables be enough? If anyone has info on a specific cable manufacturer/part number, I'd be much appreciated.
Thanks! Happy New Year!
