Inga, I did not know you had the battery light on dash. I think there are 2 iterations of that light, brightly lit and dim version . This means you are not fully charging, and you most likely need a new Voltage Regulator. Before I removed the alternator or generator for this repair action, I would remove downpipe, and try to do it from below, with alternator in place. You remove the connections(2), and remove 3 screws that fasten the black plastic cover. Once removed, you will see the VR, with the 2 brushes facing downward . 2 screws hold that in. When you remove the VR, you will see the once long brushes worn down, and compare it to the replacement. The more I think about this, I am realizing the pcv setup is right in front of this cover. All that gear may/may not have to be removed to do this w/o removing generator/alternator. Not sure there, but you can look from underneath and size it up. Good luck, Tom S.
