I feel AUTO does the right thing (TM) - it adjusts everything so that
the requested temperature is reached as soon as possible and your
feet keep warm in the winter (-30 C here) and the windows are defrosted
etc.
BTW, it is important that the ACC system (the compressor, especially)
is used every now and then. Otherwise, the system may start leaking
(the owner's manual mentions this, at least in Finland).
I _think_ (haven't got the manual here) that there are two settings
for the "start-the-compressor-at-this-temperature" parameter - maybe
this would help in your case? (Can't recall if this option was
present in our '99 9-5 - it is in our '02 Aero.)
