RDS means Radio Data System and is a adittion to FM broadcast with features like displaying the stations name, time, programm type, and so on. The best feature is, that the receiver will automatic change the frequency if the same station comes in better on a different frequency, so you can travel around and listen to your favorite station nationwide (if they broadcast nationwide). Availabel everywhere in europe but not in the US (says the SAAB manual).
BTW Audi uses radiocontrolled watches. They get the signal from a superprecise watch on a longwave frequency (in Frankfurt).
