I'll never understand the logic and thought processes of people who think it's smart to attempt extended oil change intervals. It simply does not hold up to common sense.
The cost v. benefit ratio of changing your oil has got to be the most advatangeous maintenance procedure of vehicle ownership. A quart of oil is incredibly cheap compared to most other parts. The benefit of oil changes is greater than almost any other maintenance procedure. If someone can explain to me in a rational manner how longer oil change intervals are as good or better than short intervals, I'd love to hear it.
Regarding Mobil One and their comments about change intervals, they are not the ones who are providing the engine warranty; SAAB is. So if you have an in-warranty engine failure and did not follow the mfr oil change intervals because, "some lady from Mobil told me I could go XX miles between changes" then expect to pay for a new engine 'cause that ain't gonna fly with SAAB or in court. When the warranty expries you can do what you want but while under warranty coverage, follow the mfr maintenance schedule at a minimum if only to CYA.
