As a current Saab owner you probably already know this, but;
1) You can easily remove and replace the valve cover D-I-Y for just the cost of a gasket set, around $20. Dropping the pan is more difficult and costly (some have reported $300 IIRC). A look under the valve cover may help determine whether you want to spend the extra money for the pan removal.
2) The latest PCV system, called ver6.0, is available as a kit from on-line parts suppliers and Dealers. It is also an easy D-I-Y install.
At the 60,000 mile point the car is due for a major maintenance. Dealer cost is nearly $1,000 for this service. Again, most of it is easy D-I-Y tasks but it will consume most of a Saturday to complete. The high Dealer cost is tied to the labor hours required and not the parts/supplies cost. Kits for this 60K service are available.
