I'm looking to get a 2002 Aero wagon in about 6 months' time. It's probably going to be an auto since this will be a daily commute vehicle.
Haven't driven any 2002, but did drive a 2001 Aero manual.
Another reason I can think of for the auto is that it isolates the non-linear engine response from a more highly turbocharged engine a little better. I thought it was a little unsettling with the 2001 Aero manual until I got used to it. Maybe it's just because I don't have to do the shifting and can focus more on the driving which is probably equally useful on a grocery trip and a track. The effect was far less pronounced with the manual LPT that I also drove.
