I was able to find in the WIS where it says the valve opens at 3.8 bar or 55 psi. I was also able to find a diagram of the oil routing, as well as a text description. It shows that the pressure valve is after the oil pump, but before the oil filter.

The text says "The engine lubrication system has forced-flow circulation, with the oil pressure being generated by a gear pump consisting of a pinion and an eccentric ring gear. The pump is located in the timing cover and driven by the crankshaft. Oil is drawn from the sump to the oil pump via an inlet strainer and pipe. A reducing valve in the timing cover limits the oil pressure and returns surplus oil to the suction side of the pump. From the pump the oil then flows through a passage in the cylinder block to the oil filter."

So it appears that the oil filter is downstream of the pressure reducing valve. I would expect that the pressure in the filter would be whatever the pressure reducing valve is allowing to pass, and should also be the same as you would read at the factory pressure switch since those two points are only separated by a short distance of pipe, and would still be considered a "closed" system where liquid pressure will be the same thoughout it.

I'm wondering if there is a danger in too much pressure to any of the components in the engine. Maybe the valve is stuck, or the return passage is clogged.
