Can anyone give an off the top-of-the head thought on how bad my damage is?
I've a 1999 wagon, 2.3, 5 speed, 54K. I was hit yesterday, someone missed that I was turning left, could not pull out, actually went to their right in error to avoid (if she swerved left we'd have both been fine), and hit me on the right rear wheel. Car had to be flat-bedded, wouldn't drive, wheel is angled in from vertical. So far shop says all the structural stuff on that wheel, but until they disassemble they won't know if a large square structural piece that goes across the bottom is also affected, it's a costly piece. Plus body damage to the rear 1/4 panel and the door panel where the car was struck, which I can live with if need be.
But as I left the shop, I thought to check--although I can lock and unlock the back gate, I cannot open it at all.
Would this be indicative of much bigger problems?
Because of the low book value of this car (5 speed and 10 years vs. low miles), the large deductible we carried, and just having licensed my 17 year old twins, we had made the decision to drop the collision/comp recently. And it's not clear that I will get from the other's insurance, as there could be a decision that I made the improper turn even though I thought I was clear and signaled (intersection is at just enough of a rise to have caused problems on the longer views.)

So the opinion needed--does the rear gate problem indicate that this may be way more involved and I may not want to get in to this at all?

Thanks all.
