Have fun at your focus group. I hope you can report back what some of the feelings are.
I actually like the idea of telematics. Unfortunately OnStar - and Saab's implementation of it, in particular, leaves a lot to be desired. The big problem is having to deal with the call center where the level of service can be uh, "variable" to say the least.
Here are some suggestions:
1. Implement the full suite of telematics (door lock, unlock, engine diagnostics etc.) on Saab's.
2. Make more features "self-service". If you want to lock your doors remotely, why can't you use a touch tone phone rather than the call center. If you want to locate your vehicle, why can't you use a web site rather than the call center, etc.
3. Put an auxillary keypad on the phone. The voice response system is useless except for the most basic calls. I can't check my voicemail, for example, with the OnStar phone.
4. Put a _real_ navigation system in the car to complement the OnStar service. Having a one-shot chance at directions while the call center reads them to you doesn't cut it.
5. Forget about trying to market "concierge" services. I bet half the call center personnel can't even pronounce the word. ...And you want them to suggest a restaurant??
