Hi,

I have been owning a Passat for three years now (70000 km) and it has been the most troublefree car I've ever owned. There has been virtually no problem besides changing one(!) halogen bulb for three times. I have the leather sports seat option and they are really great. 1000 km of continuous driving without getting up - no big deal.
A very reliable and satisfying car. In the sense of USING a car.
Said that, it is a kind of a little bit boring car. Everything's nice, everything is very functional, but fun is limited.
Handling is very reliable and forgiving, but once more ... there's not much fun.

All the pros I also found while testdriving the 9-5 two times (maybe the seats have to proove to be as great in the long run). The 3.0 TID VECTOR will be delivered next month (Diesel is far cheaper here in Europe).
Though more expensive of course, it is also a car of great value.
But additional it is SO beautiful inside and out, and it is a lot of fun to drive.
It offers very precise handling and a lot of high speed comfort, especially with the 17" and the sports tuned chassis (the limit in comfort at low speeds is definitely acceptable).
The car is also obviously more quiet than the Passat, even with the 17" 225/45 vs. 15" 195/65, at any speed.

So if anybody can afford the 9-5, it is an easy choice.

All this said is true for the Sedan type of the cars, but this may not be of big if any influence to my conclusions.
Just my 2 cents.

Regards, Christof
