All three are fine choices, and when considering used & new, a very wide price range. For example, you could get a new 1.8T Passat for low 20's (and I highly recommend chipping it for $500, then it has more power than a V-6, and would feel similar to the Saab turbo).

At first, try not to let price sway you too much, as the range is so large. You must first determine what things are important to you in a car -- what do you value?
-Styling
-Performance (power, handling)
-Luxury features
-Dealer convenience (a big issue with choosing a Saab)
-practicality (cargo space, interior space, etc)
-value/price
-etc.

Once you have some idea of these, go drive all three - it's pointless to speculate about which is better without thorough drives of each - you may find that for you, a 24k Passat is just as good as a 35k Saab, or you may feel that the price difference is worth it. Don't let anyone else make up your mind for you.

Test drive each car more than once - first impressions can change, especially after you go drive a different car and then come back to the first one.

The more time you spend in each car, you will discover how it meets your requirements. You will start to form opinions about each car, and can see if they are strong enough to override the issue of price.

Getting peoples' opinions on a board like this is helpful, but everyone has their own reasons for picking a certain car, and they probably aren't the same as yours. For example, most people on this board would say they love the styling of the Saab, but maybe you prefer one of the others, or maybe you don't have a preference.

I personally value handling & style very highly, which are two reason I love my '01 Aero sedan. I would not consider the Volvo as it's not nearly as sporty - but you may have very different views, as the Volvo is a very comfortable car.
