10W40 vs 0W40 Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 07:06:37 In Reply to: Re: 1999 LPT Auto Trans flush, jarrald, Fri, 19 Feb 2010 06:49:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I don't see any reason that one can't use the 10W40. As you noted, it is a LOT more available (Walmart <<AT>> $22 per 5 quart jug) than the 0W40. When I checked the specs, the 10W40 "High Mileage" Mobil 1 meets the same AECA (ACEA?) spec as does the 0W40.
I'd probably be using the 0W40 if it were more readily available.
With the ATF, I just plan on doing a drain/full every oil change, or maybe every other. It is so easy to do. ATs go a long time with factory fills on the fluid, so swapping out 3 quarts every oil change is well more than they expect!
