By all means, switch to another brand if you prefer-as long as you keep to the OEM specs in regards to size, speed and load ratings...there are many less expensive tires that perform as well if not better than the MXMs...the only plus the MXMs have IMO is that their lifespan is longer than other Z rated tires...I had OEM MXMs on my '94 900SET which lasted over 40k miles. Replaced them with 2 subsequent sets of Pirelli P7000 Summers, which lasted 12-15k. Tried a set of P7000 Supersports (with higher wear rating) and they didn't provide an appreciable gain in wear, also lasting 15k miles. I since upgraded the SET to 9-5 Aero wheels with Bridgestone S-02 Pole Positions. Just awesome!
The Pirellis wore fast, but provided superior grip in both dry and wet conditions. The MXMs wore little, but provided poor wet traction.
Pick your poison. Treadlife or traction. I picked traction.
