I hate to lump all franchised dealers in the same boat because some are always mindful of the importance of long term customer relationships where as others are out to rake in as much as possible. That said it appears that there are 2 mindsets among the great mass of Saab owners. The most common mindset of most of the participants of Saab net are DIY, learn how it works, how to do things more efficiently in short keep the costs down. This does not flow well with the dealership model of their customer base.
People who have a good income or substantial portfolios and view their cars as an appliance that meets their requirements of status, capacity and function. They blindly pay whatever is asked by service after all what are the alternatives.
No different than when our SubZero refrigerator developed a microscopic leak in the condenser coil. The part was under warranty but the labor was $500 ! The job only took 2 hours but the tech said he was doing lots of these. I'm in no position to argue the point with the spouse, it is what is. And the same would apply to those who take their car for service to the dealer. Very convenient and it is what it is .
