Some additional info as I drove around the block a few times -- Car is starting fine, and everything appears as normal for about three seconds. Then all of the dashboard lights come on dim, the turn signal indicators turn off (I tested by putting the hazards on before starting), and the fuel gauge ceases to work. On the exterior, the front turn signal lamps are on. About 5 seconds later, the center console chimes and does not display a message.
I put the car into reverse and Park Assist comes on but without a warning beep (there was no one in back of me).
Went around the block and the car drives fine (with the above issues), then after a minute it feels like the transmission slips (this is an auto), there's a clunk and the car is in limp home mode (or appears to be in limp home I should state). If I pull over and turn the car off and on I can re-do this whole procedure, instantly getting the car out of the mode. So I'm now questioning if the car is truly in limp home mode, or if there's a transmission or other problem?
Doesn't make sense with all the electrical issues going on?
