As Adam said metric wrenches and a socket set. A full set of Torx bits from tiny to the larger ones that use a 3/8 drive. Good screwdrivers, NAPA has some made in Germany ones with yellow and blue handles. Extra oil drain plug and washer so when you drop the one from the car into the bucket you have a spare until you get the old one back. Some sort of multi meter tester is nice. Cordless drill-driver. Torque wrench?
I am throwing out ideas, I am just a moderate DIYer. Some stuff still goes to the mechanic depending on my schedule and/or complexity.
Have fun. It does keep the costs down.
