I attribute some of the perceived premature failures to the sins of the parent GM. My 87 900 turbo was great. The thing that always caused me the greatest concern with my 9000 CSE was the auto transmission manufactured by ZF. As far as the early turbo failures with the GT17 that in my mind a Garrett issue. 9-5 V6 timing belts failures may be a SKF issue with the tensioner. I would bet that SAAB did not manufacture the igniton cassetts themself either. So, arguably the suppliers SAAB negotiated is the at the very least a large part of the issue. I suspect that those contracts were not negotiated by SAAB in a vacuum and that GM influenced who was awarded the contracts.

The only reason I listed this under Mary Vince is to encourage her to keep an eye out on her left rear tire on her Buick Rendezvous. There is a somewhat of common issue that causes that tire to wear out faster than the other tires. Some people think it is a bearing isssue. Also the body control module seems to fail prematurely. Also, intake manifolds were poorly made. Some attribute the failures to dexcool but that is another issue.

As far as other premature GM failures lets talk about my dads 82 Chevy Celebrity that did not make it home from the dealer without a complete failure of the transmission that required replacement at under 300 miles on the odometer. Or an 85 Cutlass that required head gaskets at 8K and complete overhaul at 50k.

More recenlty my brother in laws brand new GMC Acadia required a new transmission at under 1000K miles. Lets talk fords. How about the transmission failures 90ish Tarus and Sable models due to lack of lubrication. Or more recently the 02 and newer transmission valve body issues with the Mountaineers and Explorers. The eariler Rangers and Explorers with the manual transmission had issues with the slave cylinders. We can go on about every manufacture Toyota (brakes)? Nissan (engine issues) etc they all have their problems. My Lunch is over, so I must stop here.
