I do NOT have a check engine light on, but do have the triangle warning light on. There are four lights on: ESP off, Brake, ABS, and Central Warning Light. There are no messages on the SID and the check engine light is dark. We'll see what happens after I do the brakes day after tomorrow.
Whenever I do brakes I open the bleeder screw on the caliper when pushing the piston back into the caliper housing. That way the nasty fluid in the caliper gets pushed out and not back into the brake system. Doing this negates the need to remove fluid from the master cylinder.
At the end of a brake job I always use a pressure bleeder (Motive Products) to apply new fluid into the system while I bleed off the old stuff. The fluid in all my cars gets changed at least every other year and in some cars every 6 months. Anal? Maybe. But I've never lost an ABS controller and only ever had to replace two master cylinders.
What dies in Saab ABS controllers anyway? Solenoids? Are they a common failure item and does changing fluid frequently extend their service life?
