Only $45 for a OG 9-5 ignition cylinder Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 25 Jan 2013 16:41:50 In Reply to: OMG can you imaging this happening to the 2011 9-5, vvack0matic [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 25 Jan 2013 16:08:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The Dealership offered to attempt repair of my current ignition cylinder two weeks ago when I called for a status update. Apparently they have done this before with good success (Note: not 100% success). Cost for this repair would be $50 if they were successful.
$5 more for a repair that might not work, or wait a few more weeks for a known good and new part. Hmmmmm, let me think about this. I was scared to think what might happen if their repair was not successful. Would the car still be usable? Or would it need to remain parked until the backordered part arrived? At least I can drive my car now with only a minor inconvenience with locking/unlocking.
Someone on SaabWorld posted detailed instruction on how to fully dismatle and rebuild an ignition cylinder. After reading those I knew it was not something I wanted to D-I-Y.
