I JUST HAVE TO DEBATE THIS A BIT!
I just want to say that my experience with 5 95s we have owned and own differs.
"Have 100k on a very well maintained 2004 Aero. After owning 7 Saabs to date, I am disappointed in the fact the suspension setup is fragile and short lived, difficult and quite expensive to fix. Expect struts, mounts, shocks, springs, and a Ton of expensive bushings to replace. If you dontreplace this stuff the car will beat you to death and the ride height drops an inch or more so you run into everything with the aero. Tire life will suffer as well as it stays way out of alignment. Inner edge wears badly.
--ANSWER- I have owned 14 Saabs. Currently 4 Aeros in our family 2001, 2003, 2004. I have 190,000 on my 2001 Aero and it needed shocks and struts at 110,000. I put in $80.00 worth of spring spacers and $100 worth of bushings bushings in the rear and the suspension is better than new. Research it here. My wife's 2003 Aero has 140,000 and stock OE replacement shocks and struts at 90,000 no bushings or spring spacers and it is great. Suspension is multi link in the rear like any modern car. Lots of information here. Will not cost $2000 if your research and do your own work maybe.
Also expect to replace the engine mounts and torque rod at around 100 k as they will be shot as well, this makes the engine shake badly at idle and clunk while shifting.
-ANSWER engine mounts are not expensive and easy to replace. The rear is difficult, but lasts forever. Again an easy fix.
And the poorly designed and short lived coolant bypass valve, and the early failure of dash wood or CF inserts, they have become impossible to find replacements for and the AC distribution flap, hinge and motor problems that plague these cars.
-ANSWER - the by pass valve is weak. Costs $30.00 not hard to replace. Or you can spend $22 for a hose system that eliminates [like all Euro 95s] with no A/C effect. DIC is not solved....but has a service life.
Other than that, it is a lot like my other Saabs, with short lived fuel pumps, DI cartridges, CPS units and various oil leaks to be expected. I was used to that stuff, not used to dumping a couple of grand on suspension at 100k. Only now parts are harder to get than they were before Saab shut down, prices for parts has generally increased as well.
-ANSWER- Parts are quite available. eEuroparts, genuinesaab dot com and others. Saab Parts USA is doing a great job with parts. I have no problem with parts. ebay is also a good source.
The point is you have to be resourceful and get your hands dirty in taking care of your Saab. A good indy who is not a crook and is really interested in keeping the car on the road for your is also a good help.
Love my Saabs, but I am a realist, I would look elsewhere.
ANSWER- Your mileage may differ. The Saab 95 Aero Wagon is a GREAT bargain in a used car. It is a used car and will give you the same kind or better service that any modern sport sedan will. It is a great driving car, has loads of safety features, economical for all that performance and very serviceable. Maybe I am jaded by the fact that I love the 95, but that is a lot of fun to be passionate about this car.
