Hello,
Yes the brake booster could be the root cause of your problem. Remember you started by looking for vacuum leaks. It appears you have found one now. The vacuum pump does a good job of hiding the leaking diaphragm when the car is running. I have seen lean codes many times from a leaking booster. The only thing I wasn't sure of from your description above was if you blocked the other side of the line when trying to pull a vacuum on the booster. In a pinch I wrap a plastic bag with a rubber band on it on the manifold side and try to pull the vacuum from the pump side. Good Luck, Bernie at George Riggin Specialty Automotive
