I regularly monitor crash test results around the world and routinely watch videos to see how various cars perform. It was interesting to see how many cars failed the updated offset test. To me, it was a great example how companies engineer their vehicles to pass the present standard rather than take the ostensibly Nordic approach of incorporating reams of real-world safety data collected by accident response teams to dictate additional engineering changes to enhance occupant safety. With the present strict standards, the gap between similar vehicles from the major manufacturers is closing fast, unlike in the past where Volvo, Saab and Mercedes led the way (although just about every manufacturer seemed to contribute to occupant safety over the years in their own unique way).
