After owning 7 Saabs, there are just some things that will fail in a fairly predictable time frame that make sense to replace at your leisure before you need a tow at the worst possible time. Here is my history with my 2004 Aero, now at 121k.

3 DI's so far, they give you notice before they go and throw a code, keep a spare, but wait till failure signs.

CPS, Replaced preemptively at 100k. Replaced when I did motor mounts belts and pulley. These can fail suddenly without warning, leaving you with a tow. Relatively cheap if on your terms.

Fuel pump/filter. Replaced at 120k preemptively. Last two Saabs got towed for this failure at around this mileage, not a lot of warning before failure.

Vacuum hoses and radiator hoses, all replaced preemptively at 100k. Can fail suddenly and leave you for tow.

Suspension, it is a unique problem on the 9-5, BAD REAR SPRINGS will destroy tires and degrade ride. Depends on your threshold for misery.

Alternator, wait till failure.

Change out your ATF, Coolant, Brake Fluid preemptively, some folks also do PS fluid too. Eliminates some costly headaches. Cheap and proactive.

T-stat and temp sensor, will fail but will give warnings.

Tensioner and idler pulleys, serp belt, I replace premptively evey 60 k. Failure can happen suddenly and leave you stranded, or wreck your motor if you are dumb enough.

Motor mounts, got really bad at 100k, replace preemptively, including torque rod, I used GS poly for that.
