Do exactly that -- drive it and keep the oil topped up until you get a replacement vehicle. Consider the value of 200K+ miles to you and walk away if you can get $1000 for it. It served you well, etc. Or see if the dealer will take it when you get a car for your wife. Even $500 in trade would be worth it just to be rid of the hassle of selling it yourself.
